Let's Sketch the Superman House

Superman was created by high school friends Jerry Siegel (writer) and Joe Shuster (artist). This is the house where Jerry Siegel lived while they both attended Glenville High School. Siegel produced a science fiction fanzine while in high school, and he and Joe worked on the school newspaper, graduating in 1934. They worked together on many projects while still in school, and over the years pitched various versions of Superman until one finally stuck and was accepted by National Comics (now DC Comics) in 1938. The rest as they say, is history.

After Superman's success, literally thousands of costumed and caped superheroes littered comic book shelves and made their way to radio, television and the silver screen. One can argue that the entire superhero genre, and the billions of dollars it has generated through various media, originated right here, in Cleveland, in this house.
